Need your help

September 9th, 2009 margu Leave a comment Go to comments

Because I don’t own a notebook of HP/Compaq, Sony or Lenovo I’d like to ask you for your help to get rid of the damn problem which makes my gadget goes blank on some notebooks.

I’ve changed some settings on the gadget and added it for downloading here.

All users who have the above described problem, could you please download and install this Test-version? And then tell me if the gadget still goes blank after installation or open the settings.

If all went well, can you afterwards activate the clock (and/or calendar)  in settings and tell me what happened then?

Thank you all for your help to fix this problem. :ok:

Using test version after many lockups – running on Win7, x64, HP dv5 laptop. Seems more stable, running battery, network, and Cal. Do note the battery time remaining is 0. Also, not sure if this is just in the test version but would rather not see the “no lan connected” message at all or at least no in red. http://blog.margu.eu/wp-content/plugins/smilies-themer/margu/smile.gif – I know it isn’t connected, I’m using WiFi http://blog.margu.eu/wp-content/plugins/smilies-themer/margu/zwinkern.gif Nice Gadget, keep up the good work and glad to help trouble shoot if you need anything…

Excellent gadget,my compliments to you! It is working fantastically on Windows 7 Ultimate. I just was wondering if it would be possible to add a monitor for air cards? I use an aircard a lot of the time and would like to have it on the gadget….so, no complaints from me…you have done a great job! Thanks Frog

I’ve been using the new test version on my HP DV7 running Win7 32bit. Works fine for the most part. No blanking out. However I’ve found that sometimes trying to adjust the settings causes the gadget to lock up. Logging off then on again, closing then reopening the gadget I can get it responding again. Once you have the settings configured everything seems fine, though. Could this be an issue related to the UAC in Win7?

Also, I tried the alarm once, but couldn’t get it to shut off. Ended up logging off. Not sure if this is a bug or something I’m not doing.

Love the gadget. Using it on an HP Elitepad 8530. All versions have worked fine except for lock ups after sleeping and waking multiple times. Can’t repair the lock up without rebooting. If I shut it down and start it back up otherwise i have to reenter all the configuration. Thanks for it all the same. Can’t find a better.

Been using 2.2.2 for a while with no significant problems other than the gadget locks up if the PC is up for a long time. I don’t sleep all of my PCs and the gadget still just stops refreshing. See this problem more on Win7 x64 than on Win7 x86.

    Used it on:
Lenovo IdeaPad netbook S10-2, Win7x86, works fine, Atom N270 shows 2 cores (cpu is HT), WLAN and LAN work great. Occasional total freeze in updating.
Dell PowerEdge T710 server running Windows 7 x64, 12gb ram. With dual CPU quadcore, and HT, it showed 16 cpus just fine.
MSI motherboard, Intel Q6600 cpu, 4gb ram. Win7x64, everything works as expected, with occasional freeze up.
    HP TouchSmart IQ524, Intel C2D T6400, 4gb, Win7 x64. Works great

Just tried the test version and at first I couldn’t set the clock or calendar options, but once I went over and checked them to add to the layout, then the dropdowns worked fine.

Only wishlist: a date format of DAY, MO, Date, Year. For us americans. http://blog.margu.eu/wp-content/plugins/smilies-themer/margu/lachen2.gif

Great gadget. Would also like to see a ‘Pop Up” note attached to the alarm so that when the alarm goes off a message that you have stored will appear to remind you to do task.
Notice that when alarm goes off flashing indicator does not appear if you have program open on desktop although alarm does sound. Is it possible to have this occur. Thanks

I was using the gadget from the MS site on a Win 7 x32 system with no issues.  I have a new Win 7 x64 system and the gadget seems to stop updating after the system returns from hibernate.

I am using version 2.2.2 on my Acer Aspire 6930 running System 7 64 bit.  All the functions work perfectly except once an alarm goes off I can find no way to silence it unless I close the gadget.  If I set an alarm without sound, the clear alarm button stops the alarm, but if sound is enabled the clear alarm button does not work to turn off the sounds.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

Hi Just found your gadget works great on Dell laptop and Win 7 ultimate, this has allowed me to eliminate 3 gadgets that i was using, would it be possible to add download & upload speeds that would eliminate the last stay gadget and would allow an all in one for me

    Thanks Gerry

Cannot set the number of CPU
cannot change time zone  (the list is empty)
if I select a theme every thing come black

But it work fine on my other laptop (HP eliteBook 6930p)

@A.Fraser: Will see how I can implement this. Thanks for the hint. :)
@all: For now I can’t fix the problem on some notebooks. There is no way for me to reproduce the bugs and for this to fix them.
I’ll leave this as it is and will go on to design new features. Maybe the bugs will get fixed by themself on this ;)
Thank you all for your understanding.

After several sleep/ wake cycles will stop refreshing stats. If I open settings and then close them, will have most sections black.   Have to close the gadget and re-start it (and re-configure as it forgets settings).   2.2.2 and test version still do this.

Hi!  Great gadget, working just fine on my Acer Aspire 5515.
Just a request with the calendar: the ability to change the critical day.  Some are Jews, whose critical day is Saturday, some are atheists who see the whole weekend as critical days, and some have odd shift which make their critical days totally different.  Can you add a check box to check which days of the week will appear in red?
    Thanks!

Don’t know if it works now, but I did some changes in script and want to ask you to test it. Use the link in above post, it is updated.

My problem on this is, that I don’t have any problems on my 2 notebooks (both Acer) and 2 pc’s to get this gadget run without problems.

Thanks again for you be patient.

    Hello,
I   tried the modified version on a HP 6710 b and fiddled around a bit but even with maximum authorization it’s still the same : when you want to change something it says that at least one item has to be ticked but the program won’t let you. If I change the layout everything disappears… If you have questions, you’re welcome.

Hi there! I really love this gadget but I use a Lenovo Thinkpad, and like many others I’m having this issue. I’ve tried the newest version as well as this “test” version. When I first install it the gadget displays and seems to work fine. The problem arrises when you open the preferences. Almost all the selectable options are blank (not the LAN/WLAN ones though) and when you attempt to change the layout the entire gadget goes to blank black and the preference window gets even more messed up.
I hope this information helps you… I would really love to use this gadget!

I also tried the new version–no change. everything is blank when I try to make any changes to the settings. If I simply open the settings menu (using the wrench icon) and then hit “cancel”, all goes blank.

Hi, just tried the latest version with an HP.  I cannot add the clock/calendar function, gives the error, “At least one module has to be activated.”  Gives this error when I try to make any changes.  I’ve reverted back to the earlier version with the clock/calendar showing at install and just don’t try to make any changes to anything.  Thanks for your continued efforts.

We just purchased a new Toshiba L305-S5946 Intel T6400 tonight. While trying to setup the computer we have also noticed the Notebook Info gadget no longer works correctly.

    1. It works somewhat until you try to change settings then it just goes black same as others quoted.

I hope you are able to fix since I have been using this for quite some time.

    @Rob: Thank’s for your feedback :)

I’ve updated the Test gadget you can reach with the link above.
If you all can take a look on it and tell me if the changes I’ve made are working now, I’ll be very happy.

Hi – on my Dell machine all the settings are fine.  However on the HP laptop if you open the settings then nothing is available on the first tab (you can see it all but not set anything).  Same with settings2 tab.  On e the layout tab if you select anything then it just all goes to a black square.  You then have to relaod it to see anything again.
Hope this helps.  I have to say I really liked your version 1.1.1 which worked on both my machines, loaded up straight away(this one takes ages) and had a much better look to it with all the items on it I wanted.  Shame it is not available anymore
    regards

  38. September 15th, 2009 at 07:58 | #38

@Adam: thanks for your explanation. :)
I got a bit farer to the problem. My question to all having a dual core cpu: On the first settings page, are the buttons “DualCPU” and “MultiCore” active or grayed out?

    September 13th, 2009 at 11:33 | #39

    Hi
I have installed your gadget in the past (version 1.1.1) and all worked fine on my home laptop (Dell XPS) and on my work laptop (HP compaq2510p) and all worked fine.  Now downloaded new version and is fine on home one but doesn’t work on HP one. Have downloaded your test and this appears fine but if I go into the settings then again it goes blank and I have to re-install

    Intel Core 2 Duo T6500 2.1 GHz
Thank you for your time working out this bug.

  41. September 11th, 2009 at 06:58 | #41

@Jeff: Oh, the hint with the MultiCore selectbox helped me much. I changed this function last time to make my gadget possible to show more than 2 Cores of usage. Maybe there is where the bug is related to.
Can you – and all others who have the problem with blank gadget – tell me what kind of cpu is in your notebook/pc, please?

And a very big “thank you” at all for your great help. :ok:

Forgot to mention. When the modules in the layout tab are checked, I think there are supposed to be arrows to move them–they do not show–just a couple of lines show at the top.

  44. Jeff
    September 11th, 2009 at 01:08 | #44

Downloaded it and tried it. Now I can set the preferences without it going blank, but then I get the “At least one module has to be activated” message. If I activate any module on the Layout tab (are they the modules?) then it all blanks out again when hit OK. Another related issue–when it initially comes up in Settings tab, “Show usage of Multi core ” pull down is always blank regardless of what preferences are set on that tab.

Installed the test version on an HP laptop.  The screen no longer goes black when I try to change the preferences.

Installed the test version and agree with Dennis – same problem as b4.
When I select any of the modules, leaving Clock and Calender unchecked it just goes black.

Even if I just try to set the WLAN and LAN interface on Setting1 tab a message pops up:

“At least one module has to be activated!”

Well, I didn´t change anything in the Layout tab…
