A new release with a new module: Calendar.

The calendar can show the formats ISO(EU), US, Julian and Islamic. I put the last 2 formats in for religious people who need to know when for example “Ramadan” is.

On statusline you can see different information regarding your actual used format. On ISO and US you see on the down left the day of year of actual day. On Julian you see on the left the JulianDay and on the right the ModifiedJulianDay. If you use the Islamic calendar on the left you get shown the name of the actual day and on the right side the actual year.

If you do a mouse click on the down left information you can quick switch the calendar format and don’t have to go to the settings.

Eine neue Version mit einem neuen Modul: Kalender

Der Kalender kann die folgenden Kalenderformate anzeigen: ISO (EU), US, Julianisch und Islamisch. Die letzten beiden Formate habe ich für  User mit religiösem Hintergrund eingefügt, die z.B. wissen müssen wann “Ramadan” ist.

Auf der Statuszeile werden dem Kalenderformat entsprechend verschiedene Informationen angezeigt. Bei ISO und US wird unten links der aktuelle Tag des Jahres angezeigt. Beim Julianischen Kalender ist unten links der Julianische Tag und rechts der modifizierte Julianische Tag zu sehen. Nutzt Du den islamischen Kalender dann zeigt es Dir links den Namen des aktuellen Tages und rechts das aktuelle Jahr.

Mit einem Mausklick auf din Information unten links hast Du die Möglichkeit schnell den Kalender umzuschalten und mußt dafür nicht extra in die Settings gehen.

Mein Hauptziel war es ein Gadget zu erstellen, welches mir alle nötigen Informationen auf einem Blick bei gleichzeitig leichter Bedienbarkeit gibt.

Das untenstehende Bild zeigt wo auf dem Gadget die einzelnen Info zu finden sind. Wie Du sehen kannst, bekommst Du mit einem einzelnen Klick ziemlich viele System Informationen aufgeschlüsselt.

Eigentlich fing es ganz harmlos an. Im Sommer 2007 schaffte ich mir ein neues Notebook an auf dem Windows Vista installiert war.

Da ich schon unter früheren (nicht nur Windows-) Betriebssystemen immer gern alle wichtigen Informationen auf dem Bildschirm auf einen Blick sichtbar haben wollte (so wie nebenan zu sehen), nutzte ich ständig Tools dafür. Mein Informationshunger resultiert einerseits aus meinem Beruf als Netzwerk- und Systemadministrator und auch, daß ich bei mir zuhause ebenfalls viel vernetzt habe.

Somit kam mir die Vista Sidebar wie gerufen, weil nun das Betriebssystem die Funktion mitbrachte und ich diese nur noch mit passenden Gadgets bestücken mußte.

Das Problem war nur, daß mir der Platz nicht reichte um alle Gadgets immer im Blick zu haben. Also mußte ein Gadget her, welches mir alle Informationen bot, die ich wünschte. Sowas gabs aber leider nicht.

Somit begann ich selbst eins zusammenzustellen. Zuerst behalf ich mir damit, aus verschiedenen schon vorhandenen Gadgets die Funktionen in einem einzigen Gadget zu kombinieren. Aber wie es so war, mit jeder weiteren Information wurde das Ganze immer unübersichtlicher.

Das war der Auslöser dafür, daß ich mich richtig in die Gadget-”programmierung” reingekniet habe. Das erste Gadget nannte ich schlicht (weil ich es nunmal nur auf dem Notebook nutzte) NotebookInfo. Das “margu-” davor war dafür da, mein Gadget zu unterscheiden und später – falls ich noch andere Gadgets erstellen sollte – diese erkennbar zu mir machte.

Da der erste Versuch aber nicht so ganz der Hit war, begann ich später nochmal von vorn und der Name bekam den Zusatz “2″. Nicht, weils die Version 2 ist, sondern das 2. Gadget dieser Art.

Im Nachhinein ärgere ich mich ein wenig über meine Denkweise, weils blöd klingt. Aber was solls, ist halt jetzt so.

Wie dem auch sei, die Funktionen aus den Gadgets anderer Programmierer, welche ich ursprünglich nutzte schrieb ich immer weiter um, ergänzte sie usw. so daß am Ende alles immer umfangreicher wurde.

Die Veröffentlichung in der Windows Life Gallery brachte dann auch Rückmeldungen und Wünsche anderer User. Diese versuchte ich so gut es ging umzusetzen und stellte bald fest, daß nicht alle Funktionen von jedem User genutzt werden. So kam es dann, daß ich mein Gadget dahingehend erweiterte, einzelne Module (Infobereiche) ausblenden zu können.

Als ich das umgesetzt hatte, ergaben sich für mich noch viel mehr Möglichkeiten, denn nun war mein Gadget nicht nur für Notebookuser nützlich. Auch mein Wissen über die Windowsinternas stiegen natürlich immer weiter, weil mich meine Wege während der Umsetzung einzelner Module immer tiefer ins System führten. Einerseits um herauszufinden, wo ich im Windowssystem an die gewünschten Informationen komme (mein Ziel ist immer, alles über Windows Bordmittel zu erhalten ohne auf separate Tools zurückgreifen zu müssen) und dann das Alles noch per JavaScript, JScript und/oder VBScript umzusetzen.

Immer mehr Ideen entstanden und auch von Usern bekam ich Anregungen. Ich bin mal gespannt, wie weit ich das Gadget noch ausbauen kann.

Actually it began completely harmlessly.  In summer 2007 I got a new notebook on which was Windows Vista installed.

Because under earlier (not only Windows) operating systems I always liked to have all wanted important information visibly on one view (as you can see aside), I constantly used tools for it. My information hunger results on the one hand from my occupation as network and system administrator and also that I interlaced likewise much with me at home.

Thus the Vista Sidebar came as called for me, because now the operating system along-brought the function and I only had to equip these with suitable Gadgets.

Only the problem was that the place was not enough to always have all Gadgets I needed in the view. Thus a Gadget had to come, which offered all informationto me, which I wished. However, something like this unfortunately didn’t give.

Thus I began to arrange one. First I made do to combine the functions from different already existing Gadgets in only one Gadget. But like it is, with each further information the whole became ever more unclear.

That was the cause for it that I had to give myself all to correctly go into the Gadget programming. I called the first Gadget simply (because I used it only on the notebook) NotebookInfo. The ” margu-” in front came for, my Gadget was to be differentiated and later – if I should provide still different Gadgets – this made it recognizable to me.

Since the first attempt was however not realy worth mentioning, I later resume from start again and the name got the additive ” 2″. Not, because it is the version 2, but the 2nd Gadget of these kind.

Afterwards I am annoyed a little at my way of thinking, because it sounds to dumb. But what shall’s, now it is like that.

Be that as it may, the functions from the Gadgets of other programmers, whom I originally used, I continued to describe always, supplemented these etc. so that at the end all became ever more extensive.

The publication in the Windows Life Gallery then also brought feedbacks and desires other users. This I tried as good as possible to convert and stated soon that not all functions are used by each user. Thus it came then that I extended my Gadget in such a way, to be able to fade out individual modules (inforanges).

When I had converted that, still many more possibilities arose for me, because now my Gadget was not only useful for notebook user. Also my knowledge about the Windowsinternas always continued to rise naturally,because during the conversion of individual modules my ways led me ever more deeply into the system.

On the one hand in order to find out, where in the Windowssystem I come to the desired information (my goal is to received always everything over Windows on-board tools, without to have to fall back on separate tools) and then to convert all this still by using Javascript, JScript and/or VBScript.

Ever more ideas came and I got suggestions of users either. I am strained, as far I can still develop the Gadget.
